BJP government draws the line for its spokespersons, after the controversial tweets and comments from Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal on Prophet Muhammad. The Lotus party sources said that only authorized spokespersons and panelists will participate in TV debates. Moreover they will speak what is assigned to them by the media cell.

Backlash from Muslim countries

After the ruling BJP received a huge international backlash from Muslim countries, it sets new boundaries for its spokespersons and leaders joining TV debates. Recently, the ruling government had to face humiliation after a party leader Nupur Sharma‘s comments on Prophet Muhammad.

Fringe element

To lighten the matter they suspended her from the party and called her a ‘fringe element’. According to BJP sources, only authorized spokespersons and panelists will participate in TV debates. Moreover, they will be assigned by the media cell.

The spokespersons have been strictly warned against criticising any religion, its symbols or religious figures.

Strict instructions

The ruling party panelists are given stringent instructions from crossing the line during heated discussions. They have been urged to keep their language restrained and not get agitated or excited. The spokespersons can’t cross the line of control for no provocation. They are warned from violating the party’s ideology or ideals.

Protocol

In addition to that, the BJP has ordered its spokespersons to first check for the topic of the TV discussion. They need to follow the protocol given by the media cell, prepare for it and find out the party’s line on it before appearing on any channel.

Line of Control

However, BJP wants its spokesperson to focus on the government’s social welfare work and let people know about them.  “Spokespersons and panelists of the party should stay on the agenda. They should not fall into any trap,” sources said.

Damage control

Apparently, the government is still fighting and struggling at damage control after the comments of two leaders provoked condemnation from at least 15 countries.

Nupur Sharma, made the comments during a TV debate around 10 days ago. She said on Twitter that her comments had been in response to “Insults” made against Lord Shiva.

Another party leader, Naveen Jindal, was expelled for posting a tweet about the Prophet that he later deleted. The government sought to distance itself from the comments by describing them as “views of fringe elements”.

Stepped Back

In response to the backlash, the BJP on Sunday took a back step and said it is “strongly against any ideology which insults or demeans any sect or religion” and “does not promote such people or philosophy”. Despite the several efforts made by the government at damage control, several Muslim nations have summoned India’s envoys and demanded apologies for the comments.
