Father takes daughter’s body home on bike in Madya Pradesh because of hospital policy which says that ambulance was not provided for locations more than 15 km away.
Nearly 70 km from Shahdol, in the village of Kota, lives Laxman Singh. He said that on Monday night, Madhuri, his daughter, passed away from ‘sickle cell anemia‘. According to NDTV, he said that after requesting a car from medical staff, he was informed that ambulances were not provided for locations more than 15 km away.
On top of that, they instructed us to make our own arrangements. Because of financial issues, we rode our daughter’s lifeless body on a motorbike.
When Shahdol Collector Vandana Vaidya got to know about this incident she stopped him, he was roughly 20 km from his village. The daughter’s body was subsequently transported to Mr. Singh’s village by a car that Ms. Vaidya, who was en route to another area, had arranged.
Mr. Singh was able to transport his daughter’s body home for her last rites once the car arrived. The Shahdol Collector gave the family some financial support and mandated an investigation into what happened.
