The Income-tax (IT) officials put an end to their searches in the BBC offices in New Delhi and Mumbai on Thursday after three days. For nearly 60 hours, searches continued in the offices. Their searches involved the cloning of data from digital devices.

The searches came in the wake of a documentary shared by the BBC about the role of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in the Gujarat riots. However, the head of the broadcasting company said that the searches were stressful and disruptive.

According to various sources, the I-T officials cloned data from digital devices, which they considered important but did not confiscate any devices. Moreover, the statements were recorded by the primary staff from finance, content development and other production-related departments.

Added to that, the tax officials examined mobile phones and laptops used by some BBC editorial and administrative staff.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed the tax officials had left the offices after three days. The IT officials questioned the supporting staff for long hours. However, now things are back to normal.
