A Pregnant woman dies after least four hospitals refused admission suspecting her to be a COVID-19 positive case. The woman died two days after giving birth to twins.

The woman, who needed urgent medical care for pregnancy-related complications, was advised to come after two months. This 24-year-old woman lost her life after she was refused admission by several hospitals suspecting her to be infected with COVID-19.

The woman had recently given birth to two twins but suffered complications after her delivery. A local MLA intervened and finally got the woman admitted in the hospital.

The victim was identified as Sudha died on Thursday, two days after giving birth to two premature babies in the 7th month of her pregnancy.

Sudha’s husband Kamlesh Saini told that he took her to a government hospital when she complained of stomach pain on Monday.

“When I took her to the hospital, the doctors told us to come after she completes 9 months of pregnancy. They said she is anemic and should be administered blood. The doctors also did not examine her properly,” said Saini.

She gave birth to twins but after her delivery, her condition deteriorated. She was refused admission as she had running temperature and she died hours later.

Sudha was taken to two government hospitals and two private hospitals, but all of them refused to admit her saying she could be a COVID-19 patient.

Dehradun CMO DC Ramola questioned how can a government hospital refuse admission when a patient is critical. He has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.
