India: In lieu of the Har Ghar Tiranga’, we would like to bring to you the flag code which has to be borne in my mind while doing such campaigns. Har Ghar Tiranga’ is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

What is ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’

Reportedly, it is a campaign  to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India’s independence. Apparently, the NDA government at the canter feels that the  relationship with the flag has always been more formal and institutional than personal.

How is it planned?

To participate in this occasion, people are encouraged to hoist the flag in their homes. They have to do it from 13th to 15th August 2022. Apart from this, they  can also ‘Pin a Flag’ virtually at https://harghartiranga.com/. They should also post a ‘Selfie with Flag’ on the site.

Aim of the Campaign

According to a statement issued by the Centre, ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign would be carried out under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. In this campaign, the tricolor will be hoisted atop more than 20 crore houses across the country for three days next month.

Supposedly, over 100 crore people will participate in the campaign. Apparently, they would  rededicate themselves to the service of Mother India. Subsequently, it will greatly contribute to inculcate a new sense of patriotism among people.

The Flag code of India

The ‘Flag code of India” guides us about the use, display and hoisting of the National Flag in the country prepared in 2002.  It is a guide to bring together all laws, conventions, practices, and instructions for the display of the National Flag.

Recent amendment made

Recent amendment in The Flag Code of India, 2002, came up vide order dated December 30, 2021. According to the recent amendment, the flag had to be of Khadi or hand-spun cloth. It was punishable by law with imprisonment up to three years.

Earlier, the National Flag shall be made of hand-spun, hand-woven or machine-made cotton/polyester/wool/silk/khadi bunting, as per the amended flag code.

Opposition criticizes

However, the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign introduced by Centre of the BJP-led administration has sparked a political debate. The opposition claims that the government is trying to dilute the important issues in the name of patriotism.
